Soak Up the Sun's Delight

Dear Eloise,

Among the many reminders your grandfather instilled in me, the importance of taking time to go outside and get some sunshine stands out. At first, I was skeptical—or even aggravated at times—but I began to understand why it’s healthy for our bodies to get outside, take a breath of fresh air, and soak in the rays of the magnificent sun, also known as good ole vitamin D.

As you will come to know, your father has always had a knack for technology, education, and all things geeky. With so much time spent indoors, the possibility of a vitamin D deficiency comes with the territory (not that I ever had one). This is where your grandfather reenters the story. He was right. In light of our sanity, vitamin D, and for some, a great tan, recognizing the importance of simply spending time outside can be quite fulfilling. I must admit that your grandfather proved me wrong many times, as I returned from these outings feeling energized and with a renewed appreciation for this understanding.

Just be a good steward of your body, whether that means learning, exercising, or getting some sun. In the end, you’ll realize that God's creation, the sun, wasn’t just made to warm our world, but to provide us with essential vitamins that help our bodies function properly.

Anyway, just another silly story from your father, who loves you very much.

Your father,

Aaron Johnson.
