After an exhausting time throughout the week between measurements and alterations, the suit pants were perfectly completed to a fitting pair. To my surprise, the Jos. A. Banks manager removed the suit pant alterations fees on account of the many woes we had encountered along the buying journey. If I had initiated with the head manager, one astute realization dawned on me: none of this would have transpired.

At 5:00 p.m., on a superbly dismal evening, Iris and I had set out to pick up Joshua, the eldest Johnson brother, along the way to attend the wedding rehearsal dinner of Joseph, my younger brother, and Jaida Thomas, the fiancée. The event was located at the residence of my grandmother, Ida Edwards, or “Gigi”, the moniker she was bestowed by the immediate family.

I will have to preface with the notion that, not only did anyone from my family’s side have a clear understanding of Jaida’s family dynamics, but we also had not met nor spoken to any of her family members prior to this event other than the eldest sister, Aly and her husband, Lars, at our church a couple of months prior. Not that this speculation would make any difference at all, but we had odd feeling going into a wedding with an unfamiliarity for Jaida’s family.

What started out unusually tense, however finished quite lovely. In an effort to make small talk with my soon-to-be sister-in-law’s family, I decided to end my intrusive thoughts and begin a conversation with Jose, the husband of Sam, Jaida’s second eldest sister. From what I learned, Sam had just given birth to a baby boy, Giovanni, three months prior. I asked Jose the usual “dad questions” which only amounted to restless nights and hungry wives which I so thoroughly understood. The conversation that Jose and I shared soon opened up other possibilities with each family member resulting in a surprisingly positive outcome. It was a delight.

A Piece of History

“In the 19th century, during the construction of London's famous "Big Ben," the builders faced a unique challenge. The clock's massive bell, weighing over 13 tons, had to be transported through the narrow streets of London. To accomplish this, the bell was placed on a carriage drawn by 16 horses, and the procession moved at a snail's pace to prevent damage. The journey from the foundry to the tower took several hours, attracting large crowds along the way. This event underscored the immense logistical efforts required for such monumental projects during that era.” (Source 1, Source 2)
